Korean, named Hoon Min Jung Em , was
first created and proclaimed on September 1446(Sejong, the 28th
year). Afterward, the name Hoon Min Jung Em is now changed to Han
Gel, the contemporarily formal name of Korean. Hoon Min Jung Em
used to be called Jung Em in short, and was well known as Un Moon.
It was called Un Seo, Ban Jul, Am Kle , Ah Hat Gle , Ka Gya Gle ,
the letter of Korea, the writing of Korea, the writing of Cho Sun
dynasty, and so on.
Especially, the name Un Moon , which had started to be used from
the age of Se Jong, was the most well known name for Korean before
the name Han Gle was publicized later. Then during the process of
modernization, with national consciousness of the people, it was
called Kook Moon for a while. Few years later, a learned man of
Korean Joo Si Kyung united the name of Korean as Han Gle , which
means the language of Han dynasty, the great letter, and the best
letter of the world.
Hoon Min Jung Em letter itself was created in 1443(Se Jong, the
25th year). When it was established, Un Moon Chung (the office of
writing) was built in the palace for studying Hoon Min Jung Em and
researched explanations for the letters and studied about other
topics to enact the goal of the letter. To publicize Hoon Ming
Jung Em, Yong Bee Eo Chun Ga was published and Oon Seo was
translated in Korean as well.
For creating Hoon Min Jung Em and publishing the explanations of
it, the scholars from Jip Hyun Jun contributed a lot. The internal
meaning of Hoon Min Jung Em is the right sound for teaching a
people, and its name means the letter for using our language in a
right way . Its system is mainly based on Cho Sung(the first
sound) , Joong Sung(the middle sound) and Jong Sung(the last
sound), and Hab Ja, Bang Jum , and other factors are added as
well.
The creation process and combination of Hoon Min Jung Em is
founded on Song Confucianism . Its philosophical bases are Sam Gek
Jee Eui , presents the existence of Chun(sky), Jee(ground) and
In(human nature), and Ee Gi Jee Myo , presents the Yin- Yaeng
theory. In the old days, the universe was understood in Song
Confucianism so that any kind of thoughts or facts in the p ast
could not exist without those bases in Song Confucianism. Thus the
sound of letter, which represents the basic human thoughts, should
be based on it, then this philosophy is actively adopted to Hoon
Min Jung Em .
Creating motive and goals of Hoon Min Jung Em can be found on its
name as well as the epilogue of the book Hoon Min Jung Em ,
written by King Se-Jong.
