The process of making metal types

There are many various ways to make metal types.

The basic way is to pouring liquid materials that is already melted into molds and make various shapes. Other than metals, plaster, clay, and glass also can be used. Metal materials were gold, silver, copper, iron, lead, zinc, aluminum, stibium, and all sorts of alloys.

The main material for metal types is bronze, and this is an alloy of copper and tartar. in ancient times in Korea, a bronze alloy used to be made by mixing copper, tartar, and zinc by the proportion of 7:2:1, but the general proportion of bronze is 70%~95% of copper and 5%~30% of tartar. There are also some impurities, nickel, zinc, and antimony, but the proportion of these is less than 1%. To make a stronger metal than copper, tartar is mixed. More tartar makes the metals broken easily and whiter.

Our metal types were known to be made by using wax and molds.
