  Johann Gensfleisch Gutenberg(1399?¡­1468), who was the inventor and creator of letterpress arts of German, was born in aristocratic family of Maintz and learned fine work arts early.
He started to study the printing arts in Schtrasburg in 1434¡­1444, and developed printing machines, ink and how to mold the printing types. He built a factory in Maintz in 1450, and printed indulgences, and then after 2 or 3 years, he made prints such as ¡¸36 lined Bible¡¹ and ¡¸42 lined Bible¡¹ called ¡¸Gutenberg Bible¡¹. After that, printing arts were spread to Europe, starting Southern German, it became the opportunity of the Reformation and Science Revolution of Europe.
The reason that Gutenberg is considered an important person is not simply because he invented the metal printed types, but because he molded the metal printed types and introduced the printing arts that could make mass production.
Gutenberg's metal printed types was selected to the invention that has influenced on the human beings in the last 1000 years by US Times in the end of 1999, and he won the second in .
