Since 1998, Cheongju was
awarded 25 nationwide awards. It is something that people
living in Cheongju should be proud of because the
accomplishment was possible through common Cheongju citizens
participation.
The most remarkable award in which
Cheongju won the 1st place was The Most Sustainable City for
2000 award sponsored by Ministry of Construction and Traffic,
Korean Land Planning Association, Peoples Association for Fair
Economy and Joongang Ilbo. Cheongju also won the 1st place in
Local Economy Facilitation ane Local Government Management
part of the 2nd National Local Government Management
Improvement Award. Moreover, Cheongju was evaluated to be one
of the best cities in Korea in an evaluation conducted by
Korean Nation Government.
However, the most important
fact is that Cheongju won the 1st place in The Sustainable
City Contest. The Sustainable City Contest evaluates each each
city on the effort to make the city a better place to live.
Thus, 1st place award in this contest means that Cheongju has
the unlimited possibility for improvement. Future for Cheongju
which is striving to be Cultural, High-tech, Green city, is
very bright.
