Cheoungju, the birth place of metal printing and
publishing culture has been holding printing and publishing events
since 1994 to make Cheoungju Old Printing Lybrary worldly famous. In
the year of 2000, it was selected as a millenium monumental project
by government, and Cheoungju Exposition of Printing and Publishing
was held. It exhibited history and origin of information and
communication through letters and various styles of letters. It
was held under the theme of "past and next thousand years of letter
culture" in Cheoungju Art Hall, and about 20 countries participated
in. It also introduced the development stages of printings from old
days to today from Jikji to high tech printing machines.
Moreover, it provided digital exhibition section which showed
about internet, the center of information and communication these
days. It showed the infinite possibility of development of future
information and communication through internet. Cheoungju
Exposition of Printing and Publishing reflected the development of
printing culture in history and assured the world that the Cheoungju
is the birth place of printing culture. It also let the world know
about the important influence the Jikji had to world civilization.
Under the slogan, "from Jikji to Digital", it tried to modernize
Jikji to apply it for new industry.
